Wisconsin attorneys' banking relationships matter. | |
Through the cooperative efforts of the legal profession and the banking industry since IOLTA began in the early 1980s, hundreds of thousands of Americans have been served by the legal aid, access-to-justice and law-related education programs supported by IOLTA, nationwide.

Wisconsin's attorneys and judges |
While financial institutions provide the substance of the IOLTA program, the participation of Wisconsin's attorneys provides the backbone. Their commitment to providing support for civil legal services for low-income people exemplifies the true pioneer spirit of community solidarity and independence that embodies Wisconsin character.
We would like to thank the many attorneys and judges who donate so generously of their time and money to WisTAF.
In addition to their IOLTA participation, attorneys and judges also provide the funds for the Public Interest Legal Services Fund (PILSF) program. Participation in the PILSF program is mandatory for all practicing Wisconsin attorneys and judicial members. PILSF funds are distributed geographically throughout the ten state judicial districts in proportion to the poverty populations in each district. This means that judicial districts with a large number of attorneys and a relatively low poverty population provide funding for judicial districts with few attorneys and many poor people, which ensures that both urban and rural populations receive an equal share of PILSF funds.
